Long-lasting emission from femtosecond excitation of nitrogen-based flows shows promise as a useful mechanism for molecular tagging velocimetry instrument. The technique, known laser electronic (FLEET), was invented at Princeton decade ago and has quickly been adopted used in variety high-speed ground test flow facilities. short temporal scales offered by amplifiers permit nonresonant multiphoton excitation, dissociation, weak ionization gaseous medium near the beam's focus without generation spark observed with nanosecond systems. Gated, intensified imaging resulting enables tracking tagged molecules, thereby measuring one to three components velocity. Effects local heating acoustic disturbances can be mitigated selection shorter-wavelength source. This review surveys development FLEET over since its inception, it implemented several facilities make accurate, precise, seedless measurements studying complex flows.
